NVC - Priority date
What's the significance of the priority date? I received some
communication from NVC stating that the priority date for my case is May 3, 2007. How does that affect me? |

NVC- Priority date
Priority date means the date your application was received by USCIS.Every month, Department of States comes out with what is regarded as Visa Bulletin which shows the current month and year that it is treating.I advice that you follow the bulletin monthly so that you can know when it gets to your turn. Currently, they are on july 15, 2003.So, i guess you still have 3years and 9 months to go ( all things being equal}.

Thanks for the response. My lawyer told me it would not matter. However,
I have learnt to never again trust my lawyer, even if he is right, which it seems he was this time. Good for him and I am glad it doesn't matter. |

The first part is correct, but the priority dates are used in many different ways.. ie, different for each category. Weissbier is a US citizen petition his Immediate Relative (spouse). Since there is no limit for visa numbers for that category, the PD does not mean the same thing for him. Weissbeir, you do not have 3 years 9 months to go. ![]() Quote:
Lawyer is right this time.. it doesn't 'matter' because you aren't limited by a PD like some other petitioners might be. It means that the moment that I-130 was approved, visa application could begin. Which it has. And I sure hope it's going quickly, even if not quickly enough for you. ![]() |
